Founded in 2003, MoneySavingExpert launched a new smartphone app in May 2022.
Largely bringing its website content into an app wrapper, the app also featured Open Banking tools that would enable users to tailor the tips and tricks they received based on their spending.
The challenge
MSE does not believe in membership for membership’s sake. If we can provide something to users without them having to exchange their data with us to get it: we will never make them log in.
So what value can we provide users that keeps them coming back to the app above and beyond the excellent journalistic content they can get without having to log in?
The answer
MSE already has logged in experiences for things like Credit scoring, energy bill monitoring and its community forum. All of these services have in excess of 1 million registered users each, but until now they have been disconnected from each other.
So we needed a destination in the app to bring the power of these logged-in services into the pockets of our users – joined up to make them even greater than the sum of their parts.
Reuse, recycle, repeat
In our new MyMSE dashboard, we have created a foundation for this. With ‘Actions for you’ our editorial team is able to create content-specific actions that can be targeted to users based on their spending habits and topic preferences
